The Chinese Bridge illuminated for the night of the celebration of the peace, 1814
The occasion of this celebration in St. James' Park was England's victory in the Napoleonic wars when the Treaty of Paris was signed in 1814. A Chinese style bridge with a seven storey pagoda was built across the canal. Walkways were illuminated with Chinese lanterns and refreshment booths catered to the crowds
Unfortunately, the pagoda caught fire during the fireworks display, but the bridge remained in place until 1825.
